Can A 2008 Macbook Pro Be Upgraded Battery

I am curious to know what all can be upgraded in my 2007/2008 MacBook Pro. Free up space on my macbook. Being an older machine, it's definitely starting to lag a bit and without enough dough to throw down on an entirely new unit, I'm hoping to do whatever I can to keep this one on the up and up for a while. MacBookPro5,1 - MacBook Pro Late 2008/Early 2009 15'. Apple music production software. In November 2006 Apple upgraded the MacBook to use the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Apple specs here.

I am curious to know what all can be upgraded in my 2007/2008 MacBook Pro.

I am planning on upgrading the hard drive to a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB hybrid drive and thought that I would check to see what else can be upgraded while I'm at it. (If anyone has any opinion on these hybrid drives, I welcome them).
My computer is one that has the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor, known to have issues. Mine seems to be acting up, so I'm going to let Apple replace it while they will still honor that 'recall.'
I'm already maxed out on RAM. Is there any upgrade that can be done to my machine to enable it to handle more than 4GB RAM?
What else can be changed to improve performance in my machine?
I appreciate any input you all may have.
